This is the first of several quilts I have made using the Lucky Stars pattern from Atkinson Designs. It is such a simple pattern that produces such a great-looking, scrappy quilt. It combines my love of star patterns with my love of scrap quilts.
I really like the color palette I ended up with for this quilt. The quilt was made in 2002 and I gave it to my niece, Megan, when she graduated from high school in 2004.

In the fall of 2002, our friend Sherry, adopted her first child, a daughter, Holly Lin. This quilt was made for her using a pattern from Stargazey Quilts named Spikey Stars. It is more of a technique than a pattern since, as you can see, it results in every block having a unique look.
I think I started this in a class, possibly held at Village Quilt Shop, which was owned by two members of the Show & Tell Quilters, Kathleen and Dorothy. In 2002, our close friends, the Mosers, bought a house. I made this table runner as a housewarming gift for them.
In July of 2002, my husband's brother remarried. During the time they had been dating I had gotten to know his future wife and spent some time in her home where the couple planned to reside. She is an artist and a collector of art, so I knew I wanted to make them something special for their wedding.
I designed and made this little wallhanging for them to commemorate their marriage. I had numerous design inspiration sources, but this design is my own. When it was done, I was really pleased with the various flower shapes, the symmetry and balance in the piece despite the lack of repeating shapes, and the use of fabrics and color. I originally chose the colors to go with my sister-in-law's kitchen. Instead, they hung it over their bed where it remains 18 years later. |
