I saw a quilt in one my magazines made using this folding and pleating technique and I was intriqued. Meanwhile, I was feeling a strong urge to make a monochromatic, mostly neutral-color quilt. I can't say why. The two interests came together in this quilt.
I really love the texture and subtlety of this quilt. I think this is the first time I attempted doing machine-quilted feathers and I am really pleased with the results. This quilt hangs over our bed, and I used the color palette to choose paint, carpet and drapery fabric colors during our master suite remodel several years ago. Our bed quilt, Exuberance, incorporates many of the same neutral fabrics in the background in order to tie things together in the room.

When my newly-acquired niece by marriage, Emily, moved into her first apartment, which happened to be near the ocean, I made this quilt for her. I decided to go with ocean colors so that she would have an ocean view from that point forward no matter where she ended up living.
The photo shows the quilt hanging in the entryway of her current apartment which is nowhere near the ocean, but hopefully gives her a bit of its flavor whenever she looks at it! This is the second quilt I made using the Lucky Stars pattern - one of my favorite patterns. |
